Taste of the Sea

Have you ever wanted to collect your own seafood? If the answer is yes please keep reading. Here, on the Far South Coast of NSW you can do just that! ACWA’s team of knowledgeable local guides provide all the guidance and high quality equipment you need to collect your own premium Australian seafood such as Blacklip Abalone, Eastern Rock Lobster, Mussels and Sea Urchin. This can all be achieved by snorkelling in the sheltered and pristine waters of the Far South Coast.

ACWA's Taste of the Sea experience is not just a tour, it is an introduction to a skill you will have for life. Seafood foraging is an active and highly selective form of fishing. Snorkel diving to gather seafood can be challenging and physically demanding. However, the rewards by far out weigh the challenges as you can feed yourself with highly valued seafood gathered using sustainable methods.

Our guides take care in educating you about the target species, their environment, applicable fisheries management, collection techniques, snorkel diving safety/techniques, marine life and much more. To ensure the long term health of our shallow reef environments ACWA follow a set of basic principles/practices to minimise our impacts.

1. Only collect enough for a single meal

2. Cyclically rotate locations visited to collect seafood

3.  Comply to legal size and bag limits set on the basis reliable marine research

4. Do not disturb marine life unnecessarily including under sized specimens

5. Teach best practices so they can be followed into the future

Put this on your must do list!

My boyfriend and I did the Taste of the Sea tour with Scott in late Jan and easy to say it was the highlight of our trip to Merimbula. My boyfriend is very confident in the water and being the only two on the tour Scott took him out to the more open water. After an hour they swam me in to relax while they both continued to dive. I love that Scott tailors his tour to each group depending on their ability and experience. His knowledge of local spots, marine life and the Sapphire Coast is immense. We spent the night of the tour in a stunning campsite recommended by Scott eating a bag full of mussels. What more could you as for?
